When industry can be “eco”
With the support of the Swiss Government, Ukraine will launch a project which is a part of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
On September 3, 2019, a seminar on the theme of eco-industrial parks was held in the office of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine, with the participation of the Director of SE “IIC” Oleksandr Kolomiytsev and his deputy Olga Kotko. The participants shared their views on how the project can contribute to the development of eco-industrial parks in Ukraine, discussed new prospects for our economy.
Eco-industrial park is a community of businesses that seek to improve environmental, economic and social indicators through collaborative environmental and resource issues.
The aim of the project is to increase resource efficiency and improve business indicators, thereby contributing to the inclusive and sustainable development of industry in Ukraine. The project will belong to development of capacity and proposals for improving the regulatory framework of eco-industrial parks, ensuring the mobilization of resources for the development of pilot projects in the field of industrial parks, as well as facilitating the implementation of resource efficiency and cleaner production practices.
Among many benefits, eco-industrial parks promote resource efficiency and the circular economy, as well as help bridge the gap between cities and industries.
The eco-industrial parks program has already been launched in Latin America and Southeast Asia. For example, in Vietnam, UNIDO and other donors contributed $ 4.5 mln on the transition of “industrial zones” to more environmentally friendly ones. The term of implementation of the program – 3 years.
